Thanks to blockchain technology, a Marvel character created 20 years ago has become an NFT token

9:14 am, October 1, 2022

The superhero character created by Marvel editor-in-chief Stan Lee more than 20 years ago has been revived thanks to blockchain technologies — Marvel has released a series of NFTs with superheroes, including Slam-Girl.

As it became known, the Slam-Girl character was created back in 2000, but the supergirl never managed to hit the big screen. Thanks to Shirrell Rhodes, the former publisher of Marvel, a file with Slam-Girl was accidentally found and the Marvel team decided to release a collection of non-fungible tokens with Slam-Girl in it.

According to the authors of the collection, Slam-Girl NFTs can be purchased on the OneOf marketplace, and the supergirl fights four enemies on her digital collectibles.

Interestingly, back in 1999, Stan Lee was working on the development and launch of his own online animation studio. Lee sought to create a virtual environment where comic book characters would live (similar to the prototype of modern metaverse), but his idea was not accepted at the time, so the project was abandoned.

In early June, Marvel’s main competitor, DC Comics, created its own NFT marketplace. Among the collections presented on the platform are DC FanDome 2021, AMC «The Batman» posters, DC Bat Cowl, and Gotham City Knightwatch District Sigil NFTs. Crypto enthusiasts who purchase a token from the DC Bat Cowl collection will be able to take part in the creation of a new Batman comic book. Another 20,000 NFT token holders will choose the storyline, characters, and illustrations for future comics by voting.
