This comes a day after South Korean officials confirmed Kwon’s arrest in Montenegro. Interpol also confirmed Kwon’s arrest through a fingerprint match, CNN reported.
Kwon was accused of violating South Korean financial laws after the collapse of the TerraUSD stablecoin and the Luna token in May last year. This notorious entrepreneur has been on the run since September, when a Seoul court issued an arrest warrant for him and Interpol put him on the wanted list.
Luna and the TerraUSD stablecoin lost their value in a matter of days last May, which led to the loss of about $ 40 billion in the crypto market and marked the beginning of the 2022 crypto winter.
Kwon was charged with fraud and violation of South Korea’s capital markets laws. He repeatedly claimed on Twitter, Binance-i-ftx/«>that he was not «on the run,» but steadfastly refused to reveal his whereabouts.
Before his arrest in Montenegro, Kwon was allegedly hiding in Serbia.
