Ukrainian hackers accused of interfering with Russian space satellites

1:43 pm, April 14, 2023

The Ministry of War of the terrorist state has accused Ukraine of allegedly «attempting to influence» Russian satellites that provide communications and the Internet. «The Kyiv regime, with the participation of specialists from a number of foreign countries, is attempting to influence Russian civilian communications satellites,» the criminal government said in a statement. Officials of the aggressor country called such actions «an outrageous violation of international law.»

Traditionally, the aggressor resorted to threats. «The Russian side has the right to respond appropriately. It has all the necessary capabilities to do so,» the Ministry of War said in a statement.

Against the backdrop of the accusations made by the occupying country, it is interesting to note that just an hour before Russia’s full-scale military invasion of Ukraine, hackers of the invading state hacked into the Viasat satellite system. Official charges were brought by the EU and the European Council. «This cyberattack had a significant impact, causing indiscriminate communication outages and disruptions to several government agencies, businesses and users in Ukraine, and also affected several EU member states,» the statement said.

It should be noted that space satellites are one of the most important sources of intelligence for the government and the Armed Forces. Western partners regularly share their space intelligence data with Ukraine. Currently, our government agencies use about 42,000 Starlink satellite Internet terminals. The use of the satellites is fully funded by Ukraine’s Western donors.

At the same time, since August 2022, Ukraine has had its own reconnaissance satellite in its arsenal. As a reminder, Serhiy Prytula’s charitable foundation raised funds for the ICEYE satellite, which helped Ukrainian soldiers destroy thousands of pieces of Russian equipment.
