Cryptocurrency trader lost $ 50 million on the Ethereum blockchain
One of the most unfavorable exchanges of recent times took place on the Ethereum network ETH $2,139.13 Bridged Ether (StarkGate) 2.84% Market capitalization $43.18 million VOL. 24 hours $1.32 billion : a trader actually converted assets worth about $ 50 million and received only about 36 thousand in AAVE tokens. This is evidenced by the transaction data that analysts have noticed.
According to Etherscan, the transaction began with the burning of more than 50 million aEthUSDT, a tokenized version of USDT in the Aave protocol. After that, the funds were sent through the CoW Protocol, a platform that aggregates liquidity and is supposed to find the best routes for exchange.
However, the result was disastrous: instead of the equivalent asset value, the wallet received only 327 AAVE tokens. On paper, this looks like the exchange of tens of millions of dollars for a tiny fraction of their real value.
The causes of the incident have not yet been established. Possible explanations include the use of a pool with low liquidity, manipulation of pricing, or a technical error in the order configuration. Such failures sometimes occur in complex DeFi transactions involving multiple smart contracts.
Despite the scale of the numbers, the incident did not affect the Aave market. The 327 tokens lost are a small amount compared to the total liquidity and capitalization. The incident emphasized the risks of complex DeFi exchanges rather than creating systemic pressure on the asset itself.
