The White House has developed a phone app to support Trump
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has released an official mobile application, The White House App, available for download in app stores. According to the official press release, this tool should provide Americans with a direct channel of communication with the White House and provide up-to-date information first-hand without intermediaries.
Essentially, the app aggregates official content: live streams, photo galleries, and press releases from the administration. Users can also turn on notifications to receive new presidential statements instantly.
However, after just a few minutes of use, serious doubts arise about the app’s practical value. The News tab contains about 35 articles written exclusively in support of Trump’s policies. The «Affordability» section provides data on the decline in prices for eggs, milk, and bread compared to last year, but completely ignores the recent sharp rise in gasoline prices.
The Social Networks tab has a button «Send a message to Trump» that automatically displays the text «The greatest president of all time!». In addition, the app tries to sign the user up for a marketing newsletter.
Despite the fact that the announcement promised the ability to «send your voice and feedback directly to the presidential administration,» the app does not have a corresponding function. Instead, in the «Contact Us» section, you can send a message to the Immigration and Customs Service.
As a result, while it is convenient to have all the announcements of the current administration in one place, The White House App is actually just a portal that redirects to external sites. Usually, the official White House social media accounts are handed over to the next administration when the president changes. What will happen to this app after Trump’s term ends remains an open question.
