American tech company gives away free TVs for watching ads

11:13 am, May 17, 2023

The American company Telly has introduced a free TV with two screens. While the user watches a favorite TV series or sports broadcast on the big screen, the smaller one will constantly show ads. The information was disseminated by The Verge.

The second screen is called Smart Display. In addition to displaying ads, it can also show various widgets, including sports scores, a moving news line, weather, and stock prices.

Dallas Lawrence, Telly’s chief business strategy officer, told the media that ads can be broadcast on both displays when the TV is not in use. The company is also working on the Telly Rewards program, which will reward users with gift certificates from Netflix or Starbucks for participating in surveys.

As for the technical characteristics of the TV, the main screen has a 55-inch 4K HDR panel and the TellyOS operating system. However, the proprietary OS does not currently support third-party streaming applications such as Netflix. The TV has three HDMI inputs, 2 USB inputs, and a tuner. The device also has a camera that allows you to use «free advanced fitness apps with motion tracking.» The TV has support for Zoom and a protective cover for the camera.

Telly stated: «We may collect information about the audio and video content that the user likes, the channels they watch, the duration of viewing sessions, and information about how the user interacts with the TV, including searches, buttons, and the physical presence of the user or any other persons using the TV.»

If a customer wants to opt out of data collection, they will either have to return the TV or pay $ 500.

Telly’s TV also comes with 40 different games and the ability to play music from popular music services. It has an AI-powered voice assistant that responds to the greeting «Hey Telly», allowing the user to set timers or alarms.

Currently, the company’s website offers to reserve one of 500,000 free devices. Telly promised that the TVs will be delivered to customers this summer.

As a reminder, AGM, a thermal imaging and night vision company, has released a series of AGM G2 gadgets with a thermal imaging camera and 5G support. The company said that it has created the world’s first mobile phone with a thermal imager that works at a distance of up to 500 meters.
