Digital artists give up rights to their NFT works

4:23 pm, August 16, 2022

Proof, the team of digital artists behind the Moonbirds NFT project, has decided to give up the rights to its non-fungible tokens, which will become public property under the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) license.

The decision of the Proof artists to «donate» their work to the entire NFT community became known from a tweet by Proof co-founder Kevin Rose. Rose called the decision revolutionary and advised other developers to follow suit. From now on, all NFTs created by the Proof team can be used for free for any purpose, such as commercial advertising.

According to digital artists, copyright has started to work against them, limiting creativity rather than encouraging it. The developers of Proof aim to make all creativity a community asset, as it once was.

As a reminder, the Moonbirds NFT collection attracted the attention of users in April, when the trading volume of the collection exceeded a third of a billion dollars, and the entire collection was sold out instantly. Of course, this was used by fraudsters who bought up verified Twitter accounts en masse. The fraudsters renamed the accounts to Moonbirds and wrote about the availability of additional drop sales that could be used to buy tokens. Users followed the phishing link and lost their funds after connecting their wallets.
