Fake video generated by artificial intelligence gained a million views in a few days

A few days ago, the creator of the YouTube channel Curious Refuge used the Midjourney neural network to create a trailer for a fake episode of the Star Wars space saga in the style of Wes Anderson.

At the end of last year, Reddit posted footage of a non-existent Star Wars movie by the director of The French Gazette, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom, and Isle of Dogs. The YouTuber decided to develop the story of the fake episode using artificial intelligence.

The fictional movie is called «Galactic Menagerie: Star Wars. Stories». «Join the adventure of a team of unexpected heroes wandering among the absurdity of space. They’re about to challenge the Empire and redefine what it means to be a rebel ,» says the voiceover in the trailer.

Darth Vader is played by Owen Wilson in Galactic Menagerie.

Han Solo is played by Edward Norton.

Princess Leia is played by Scarlett Johansson.

«The project started as a fun personal experiment to explore the potential of artificial intelligence for movie making, but the video seems to have sparked a broader discussion about the role of artificial intelligence in Hollywood,» commented Caleb Ward, founder of Curious Refuge. In 5 days, the AI video was viewed by 1 million users, and 19,000 clicked «like».

As a reminder, one of the new AI «creations» scared users. a 30-second AI video for a fictional brand advertising a popular type of pizza was even compared to a horror movie.
