MetaMask has created a cryptocurrency wallet for artificial intelligence
MetaMask has launched Agent Wallet as part of its Early Access Program. The product is a non-custodial wallet for AI agents, built on MetaMask’s proven security stack, which has been in development for over a decade. The wallet connects via a command-line interface (CLI) and allows users to set operating rules before the agent begins executing transactions.
Every transaction on supported networks—Ethereum, Linea, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Base, Polygon, BSC, and Sei—undergoes simulation, threat scanning via Blockaid’s Transaction Shield, and MEV protection through Smart Transactions. Transactions deemed secure are covered by Transaction Protection for up to $ 10,000 per month.
The product is aimed at crypto-native traders, automation specialists, and developer-traders. The solution is not tied to any specific framework and supports OpenClaw, OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, Nous Research Hermes Agent, Cursor, and other agent-based environments. Users retain their own keys and can export their Secret Recovery Phrase at any time.
MetaMask Agent Wallet offers two operating modes. Guard Mode is the default mode: the user sets daily spending limits, a list of allowed protocols, and policy rules. If a transaction exceeds these limits, it is paused and requires confirmation via 2FA—in the form of a push notification in MetaMask Mobile or a confirmation link sent via email. Beast Mode is designed for those who want fewer interruptions: security checks are still performed, but 2FA is triggered only for transactions flagged as malicious.
The agent cannot bypass any of these restrictions. If a transaction is flagged as suspicious or falls outside the established policy, execution is automatically blocked and sent to the user for review. This approach reflects the product’s core principle: the agent can operate autonomously, but only within the rules set by the user.
During the early access phase, participants can integrate the agent framework, select an operating mode, set limits, fund the agent’s wallet, and test workflows on the network. MetaMask Agent Wallet provides full access to DeFi within a single wallet: swaps, perpetual contracts (perps), prediction markets, LP pools, and more across all EVM-compatible networks and Hyperliquid.
Early access is currently open to a limited group of traders and developers. Feedback from program participants will shape the path toward a general release, which is expected this summer.
