Russia ranks third in the anti-rating of countries with the most cryptocurrency hackers
Russia ranked third in the anti-rating of countries by the number of cybercrimes related to digital assets, according to Coincub analysts. The experts noted that a large number of ransomware is being developed in Russia. It is believed that Russian hackers created such virus programs as Conti, REvil, Ryuk, and Netwalker. The report also notes that the Russian government supports the activities of hacker groups instead of fighting them.
The United States was ranked second. According to analysts, the reason for this is the developed underground cryptoeconomy. It was the United States that recorded the most high-profile cases of digital asset fraud. According to Coincub, the United States accounts for 14 officially recorded cryptocurrency crimes, with total revenue exceeding $ 2 billion.
Experts gave the first place to North Korea. According to them, the country is a leader in the field of scam and crypto fraud due to the fact that the government employs about 7,000 hackers, and they successfully carry out cyberattacks, bringing money to the state treasury.
For example, the FBI has linked the Ronin sidechain exploit, which stole $ 625 million, to the North Korean group Lazarus. Elliptic analysts suggested that Lazarus was also behind the hack of the Horizon bridge in the Harmony network, which resulted in the withdrawal of $ 100 million.
