Russian hackers claim responsibility for cyberattack on Kyivstar
Russian hackers from the Solntsepek group have claimed responsibility for the attack on Ukraine’s largest mobile operator Kyivstar. This became known from a report by the Security Service of Ukraine.
According to the attackers, they infiltrated the operator’s network and gained a foothold. The attack destroyed the organization’s internal network infrastructure, which provides communications not only to millions of subscribers but also to the Armed Forces. It should be noted that the Defense Forces have already reported the availability of alternative sources of communication.
The cybercriminals of the terrorist state also reported that they allegedly obtained personal data of the company’s customers: Full names, passport details and addresses. We are talking about millions of records. In addition, the backups were allegedly destroyed — as proof of this, the hackers provided screenshots of the backup of the server they took control of.
As a reminder, since yesterday, December 12, Kyivstar, a mobile phone service provider, has been under attack. Users of Ukraine’s largest electronic communications operator complain about network problems and the lack of Internet access.
We would like to add that yesterday a powerful DDoS attack was launched against Monobank. However, it was successfully repelled.
