They plan to return the most powerful artificial intelligence to users

A leak in the binary file for Claude Code version 2.1.190 suggests that Anthropic is preparing to bring back the Fable 5 model—and this time, it may be included directly in the subscription without a separate fee. A user going by the handle «synthwavedd» on X discovered the line «You've used your Fable 5 usage for this week» in the code, which is not listed in the public changelog on GitHub.

The Decrypt editorial team independently verified the discovery: the @anthropic-ai/[email protected] package was downloaded directly from npm, unpacked, and analyzed using the `strings -a` command. The line was confirmed: «You've used your included Fable 5 usage for this week. Continuing on Fable 5 uses usage credits.» Additionally, the phrase «purchased separately from your plan» has disappeared from the corresponding interface text, indicating a change not only in wording but also in the pricing model itself.

Fable 5—the first publicly available model in Anthropic’s Mythos class—was withdrawn on June 12 after the Trump administration issued an emergency export control order, citing a jailbreak vulnerability. Anthropic complied but contested the severity of the allegations, noting that a similar vulnerability could be replicated on any other model on the market without bypassing any security measures.

Following the model’s recall, a public conflict erupted between the company and the White House. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei found himself sitting at the same table as Trump at the G7 summit in France—in an awkward position next to French President Emmanuel Macron, while OpenAI CEO Sam Altman sat directly next to the U.S. president. The company had already been labeled «woke» by Trump and placed on a list of supply chain risks for refusing to provide its AI to the Pentagon for certain military applications.

However, the situation appears to have changed this week. According to Wired, Anthropic has replaced Amodei with co-founder Tom Brown as the lead negotiator in talks with the White House regarding the return of Fable 5. Brown has been holding meetings with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Director of National Cybersecurity Sean Kerncross since mid-June. The talks are focused on creating a joint system for assessing jailbreak incidents—criteria for determining when a model’s vulnerability truly poses a threat to national security and when it does not.

Last week, Trump publicly stated that he no longer considers Anthropic a threat to national security—a reversal of the position he had held as recently as mid-June. The company responded with a measured statement thanking the administration for its «partnership.» Some users have also noted that Amazon Bedrock still lists Claude Fable 5 in its model catalog—a possible sign that it may return sooner than expected.

The status page at status.claude.com still lists the suspension from June 13 as active, with no restoration date announced. However, the new lines in the production binary aren’t just placeholders: when the UI code changes in the actual package, the team is already building something concrete.
